Flexible Protection for Industrial Pipework

10/07/2026

Industrial pipe insulation is only as reliable as the protection around its weakest points. HankoFLEX® combines insulation, flexible PIB, Sabeto Shield Coating and custom detailing in a system designed to manage moisture, movement and complex geometry.

Adaptable protection for moving pipework

Industrial pipes expand and contract as operating temperatures change. Rigid outer protection can struggle to accommodate this movement, particularly around joints, supports, valves and other complex details.

HankoFLEX® uses a flexible PIB membrane, adhesive-bonded seams and custom detailing to follow the movement of the pipework while maintaining a continuous protective layer around the insulation.

Built around the project

HankoFLEX® is adapted to the specific temperature range, pipe geometry, insulation type and operating environment.

The system can be qualified for individual projects through joint engineering, material selection and application-specific validation. Technical product data, test reports, environmental documentation and installation resources support the specification and delivery process.

Where conventional protection can fall short

Differential movement
Temperature changes can make pipes, insulation and outer protection move at different rates. HankoFLEX® uses a flexible PIB membrane and bonded seams to accommodate that movement.

Rigid interfaces
Supports, flanges and penetrations concentrate stress where movement is restricted. Flexible transitions help maintain continuity around these fixed points.

Detail-driven failure
Valves, bends and access points create complex weak spots. Custom PIB details allow the system to follow the actual installation.

Many insulation failures begin where movement, rigid interfaces and complex details meet.

Hot pipes: controlled moisture release

Hot pipe systems need protection that can accommodate thermal movement while allowing residual moisture to escape in a controlled way.

The HankoFLEX® build-up combines insulation, a flexible PIB membrane and adhesive-bonded seams with temporary or permanent ventilation openings. A vapour-open Sabeto Shield coating completes the outer layer without trapping moisture inside the system.

Cold pipes: sealed against moisture ingress

Cold pipe systems require a tighter finish because condensation and vapour ingress can quickly compromise the insulation.

Moisture is first allowed to escape through temporary ventilation openings. The openings are then closed with circular PIB patches and sealed with an additional Sabeto Shield layer, creating a diffusion-tight outer finish around the insulated pipework.

Core components of the HankoFLEX system

HankoFLEX® combines a flexible PIB membrane, EasyFLEX Adhesive Spray and Sabeto Shield Coating in one project-specific build-up for insulated industrial pipework.

Water-based coating used to seal details, transitions and ventilation points as part of the completed outer protection system.

Flexible PIB membrane that forms the main protective layer around the insulated pipework and accommodates movement in the installation.

System adhesive used to secure the PIB membrane at key anchor points and support bonded seams, overlaps and adapted details.
