What is Sabeto Shield PU Primer?

Sabeto Shield PU Primer is a fast-drying, water-based hybrid primer based on acrylic and polyurethane resins. It is used as a primer before applying water-based coating systems and waterproofing build-ups such as Sabeto Shield Coating.

The primer helps prepare and stabilise suitable substrates and supports adhesion within the complete system build-up. Primer selection and consumption must always be assessed according to substrate type, absorbency, condition and project requirements.

Application areas

Sabeto Shield PU Primer is used on suitable mineral and bitumen-based substrates before the application of Sabeto Shield Coating.

Typical applications include:

  1. Concrete
  2. Cement-based screeds
  3. Mineral-surfaced bitumen membranes
  4. Cement roof tiles
  5. Existing liquid-applied waterproofing membranes
  6. Concrete or rendered walls and façades where a compatible water-based coating or paint will be applied afterwards

The substrate must be stable, clean, sufficiently dry and free from dust, oil, grease and loose material before application.

Role in the coating system

Sabeto Shield PU Primer is applied before Sabeto Shield Coating to prepare the substrate and support adhesion between the substrate and coating.

A typical workflow includes:

  1. Inspection and preparation of the substrate
  2. Cleaning and removal of loose material
  3. Application of Sabeto Shield PU Primer
  4. Drying time before the following layer
  5. Application of Sabeto Shield Coating according to the recommended system build-up

Application notes

The product must be stirred before use and can be applied by roller, brush or suitable spray equipment depending on the project and substrate.

Do not apply under wet conditions, during rain or if rain is expected before the primer has dried. The substrate temperature must be at least 3 °C above the dew point.

Where increased anti-corrosive protection is required, an additional primer layer may be relevant. This must be assessed according to surface condition, exposure and project requirements.
