What is Sabeto Shield Metal Primer?
Sabeto Shield Metal Primer is a water-based, 1-component primer for iron and steel. It is used as an anti-corrosive primer before applying water-based coating and waterproofing systems such as Sabeto Shield Coating.
The primer helps prepare suitable metal surfaces and supports adhesion within the complete system build-up. Primer selection, surface preparation and consumption must always be assessed according to metal type, surface condition, exposure and project requirements.

Role in the coating system
Sabeto Shield Metal Primer is applied before Sabeto Shield Coating to prepare the metal surface, support adhesion and contribute to anti-corrosive protection within the complete coating system.
A typical workflow includes:
- Inspection and assessment of the metal surface
- Mechanical cleaning, sanding or other suitable preparation
- Removal of dust, oil, grease and loose material
- Application of Sabeto Shield Metal Primer
- Drying time before the following layer
- Application of Sabeto Shield Coating according to the recommended system build-up
Application notes
The product must be stirred thoroughly before use and can be applied by roller, brush or suitable spray equipment, depending on the project and substrate. If required, it may be diluted with up to 5% water.
Do not apply under wet conditions, during rain or if rain is expected before the primer has dried. The substrate temperature must be at least 3 °C above the dew point.
Where increased anti-corrosive protection is required, an additional primer layer may be relevant. This must be assessed according to surface condition, exposure and project requirements.
