What is ElaProof Primer?
ElaProof Primer is a water-based primer for porous substrates before the application of ElaProof coatings. It is used as part of the system build-up when the substrate needs preparation and improved adhesion between the surface and the coating.
The primer is suitable for porous materials such as new and existing concrete, rendered surfaces, mineral substrates and gypsum. It helps seal pores in the substrate and can reduce the risk of air bubbles forming in the subsequent ElaProof coating.
ElaProof Primer is typically mixed with water at a ratio of 1:2 and applied in a thin, even layer. The substrate type, absorbency, condition, moisture level and project requirements should always be assessed before use.
Product highlights
Areas of application
ElaProof Primer is used on suitable porous substrates before the application of ElaProof coatings. It prepares the surface, improves adhesion and helps seal pores in the substrate.
Typical applications include:
- New and existing concrete surfaces
- Rendered surfaces
- Mineral substrates
- Gypsum-based surfaces
- Cement-based boards and substrates
- Other porous surfaces intended for ElaProof coating
The substrate must be stable, clean and free from dirt, grease, dust, old paint, loose surface layers and other materials that could impair adhesion.

Values are indicative and depend on the substrate type, absorbency, roughness, temperature, moisture conditions and project requirements. Always consult the installation instructions and technical documentation before use.
How to use the product
ElaProof Primer is typically mixed with water at a ratio of 1 part primer to 2 parts water. Apply the mixture in a thin, even layer so that it is absorbed into the substrate without forming puddles on the surface.
Application notes
ElaProof Primer must be applied when the air and surface temperature is above +5 °C.
Very dry or highly absorbent substrates may require additional assessment or a further primer treatment. Air bubbles in the subsequent ElaProof coating may indicate insufficient priming.
The diluted mixture should be used within one week. Clean tools with water after use.
Always consult the installation instructions and technical documentation before application.
A typical workflow includes:
- Inspect and assess the substrate
- Remove dirt, grease, dust and loose material
- Remove old paint or weak surface layers where necessary
- Mix ElaProof Primer with water in the correct ratio
- Apply using a roller, brush or suitable spray equipment
- Allow to dry before applying the subsequent ElaProof coating
- Check the surface before applying the next layer
